Testing Tools to Engage People Living with Dementia in Decision Making
The need:
The Canadian Centre for Elder Law (CCEL) Dementia + Decision-Making Project is an initiative to support the rights of people living with dementia in making decisions about their care. After completing robust community consultations with key groups, CCEL developed a series of tools to share practical and legal information on how to support and empower people living with dementia in making decisions. CCEL required evaluation support to pilot the tools developed.
What we did:
Catalyst implemented an efficient process to pilot test the tools designed to better engage people living with dementia in decision-making. In-depth focus groups and interviews were completed with intended users of the tools to assess their: satisfaction with the tools, key strengths and shortcomings, and suggestions for improvement. The evaluation was designed in close collaboration with the CCEL and an Advisory Group of people living with dementia. Recommendations from the evaluation were quickly actioned by CCEL to enhance and strengthen the tools in advance of launching them for use.
